3D / 4D Ultrasounds

Unlike traditional 2-D ultrasound, which scans through the baby and produces a 2 dimensional image for viewing, 3-D/4-D ultrasound produces an image of the exterior of the baby—an image that “looks like a baby” to most patients.

As you are aware, we perform 2-D ultrasounds on all patients at their initial obstetrical appointment in order to confirm their due date and again between 18-22 weeks to assess fetal anatomy.  Maximal amniotic fluid is not present until 26-30 weeks. If you would like to avail yourself of the full capabilities of 3-D/4-D ultrasound, you can schedule a 20 minute photo session between 26-30 weeks, at which time you will be given a CD that includes 3-D still images suitable for email to family members.  Insurance will not pay for this “fun” session; therefore, you will be responsible for the $150 fee up front.  If the baby is not cooperative, we will reschedule your session at no extra charge.
